1. Not quite sure how this one slipped through the net but thanks to Pitchfork’s Overlooked Records of 2012 list, it didn’t stay lost forever.  Daniel Rossen is 25% of Grizzly Bear but on Silent Hour / Golden Mile, a 5-track EP, he manages to sound 100% like them.  This should be music to the ears of fans of Veckatimest (your writer being a big one) as most of the tracks on here could fit quite easily onto that record.  If anything, it’s slightly folkier than when the whole band is together to add the extra layers of syrup onto the musical melange.  Should Rossen be trying something more radically new or different?  I think that depends on how much you’ve been yearning for new material from Grizzly Bear (whose new album is landing in just a few weeks now).  But I for one really enjoyed this snippet of sound, liberated from the studio and mind of one of the members of one of the best bands around.
